5 Best Super King Size Beds 2020 and 2021
A super king size bed's dimensions are 180cm wide and 200cm long (or 6 foot wide x 6 foot 6 inches long for your benefit, Mum). That means that it's a whole 30cm wider than a king size bed, but exactly the same length.
Finding a good value super king size bed in the UK isn't quite as easy as finding a double or king size. Several of the best wooden, metal and fabric beds that we've included in our other guides aren't made in super king size.
However, after much digging and searching we've found five super king size beds which we think are worth your money. We've chosen a selection of wooden super king size beds, metal super king size beds and fabric super king size beds as well as an ottoman super king size bed for a bit of extra storage. We've tried to avoid the glossy-magazine habit of only including hugely expensive products, since most of us are looking for something which costs less than a family holiday.
We've also included some suggestions of great mattresses which are available in super king size.
Prices are correct at the time of writing (2021), although I think you probably would have figured that out for yourself.

1. Nodax Furniture Super King Size Wooden Bed - £249 (4 colour options)
Most of the super king size wooden beds we found were £500+ but this one bucks the trend and it gets great reviews (4.7/5 from 400+ customers).
The difference is that it's made from pine whereas more expensive super king size beds are made from oak. Pine is a softer wood so it's not quite as posh as oak but it does the job nicely and is frequently used in furniture. It's made by a company called Nodax Furniture and is sold via Amazon. Nodax get good reviews on Google reviews, albeit from a small number of customers. You can choose from four shades of wood. The shades are called 'walnut', 'oak', 'alder' and 'natural pine' but the bed is made of pine regardless of which one you choose. It's got solid slats, which gives a bed a firmer feel than you get with 'sprung slats'. Usually, solid slats are cheaper than sprung slats but it's worth noting that this bed has a good number of slats and they're not very far apart. Some cheap super king size bed frames leave whopping great big gaps between the slats which isn't good for your mattress and can even void the mattress' warranty in some cases. You only get a one year warranty with this super king size bedframe. However, that's actually quite common in beds (mattresses have longer warranties). If you're feeling flushed and can afford an oak super king size bedstead then I would take a look at: |
2. Bensons for Beds Harvard Super King Size Metal Bed Frame - £499 (2 colour options)
Metal beds are popular because they're durable, easy to clean and you get a nice matching headboard rather than having to buy one separately. They've also got a simple style which is unlikely to look dated in a few years' time.
The downside is that they can be a bit squeaky and need tightening up. The other problem is that they're painful when you walk into them. On a pain scale, I'd say it's up there with treading on Lego in bare feet. This super king size Harvard metal bed by Sleepmasters is sold at Bensons for Beds and comes in a choice of white or black. It's much better priced that a lot of super king size metal bed frames and reviews are positive. When we checked, the only negative reviews were from a couple of people who had problems with delivery rather than the actual bed. The slats which support your super king mattress are sprung wooden slats, which give a slightly softer and bouncier feel than solid slats. Some cheap metal beds come with thin rungs rather than flat wooden slats. I would avoid metal beds with rungs if you can afford to, as they aren't great for spreading weight out on your mattress. This one comes with a bog standard one year guarantee. Although at the time of typing they are offering a five year warranty if you buy a mattress at the same time. |
3. Happy beds Yorkie Super King Ottoman bed - £595
This Yorkie super king size ottoman bed got our attention thanks to its generous five year warranty. It scores well with customers who score it 4.8/5 at the time of writing. It also won an award from The Independent.
As with most ottoman beds, you lift it up manually to store your old junk. A few ottoman storage beds have an electronic lift but not many (if you've got deep pockets, Tempur sell one for £2000+). The bit which supports your mattress is what's known as a 'platform base'. That means that it covers the whole storage area rather than using slats. The advantage is that you don't get dust on the stuff you're keeping underneath. Observant readers will have noticed that this super king ottoman bed has feet, whereas a lot of ottoman beds just sit on the floor. Personally, I prefer the look of feet but the downside is that you can't be so enthusiastic with storing your collection of heavy stuff as there's a risk you'll damage the base. To misquote Henry Ford, you can choose any colour you like, as long as it's grey. You can also buy this super king size ottoman bed via Amazon. |
4. Dreams classic Super King Size divan bed - from £200 (4 colour options)
A super king size divan base probably won't have you reaching for your camera for a gushing Instagram post. However, it will provide a reliable base for your mattress and it's much cheaper than most super king size bedframes.
Plus, you can split divans in half which means you can move them between rooms without hiring a local rugby team. This 'classic' divan base from Dreams is about as simple as you can get, but it gets glowing reviews of 4.7/5 from more than 3000 customers. The choice of colours is not exactly thrilling but I personally like the blue and silver ones. Divan Base Direct sell a similar thing for a similar price which comes in more than 20 colours. In case you're drowning in jargon, it's worth realising that there are two types of super king size divan base. Cheap ones are a simple wooden box covered in fabric and are known as 'platform top divan bases'. Posher ones have their own springs for a bit of extra comfort and are known as 'sprung edge divan bases'. Personally I would prioritise spending more on your mattress rather than your divan base but if you're feeling flushed then you might want to upgrade the divan base as well. |
5. Dreams Lucia Super King Size Fabric Sleigh Bed - £649 (3 colour options)
In my opinion, super king sleigh beds look very nice, although they do use up a bit more space. They have the modest advantage of stopping your mattress from moving around. Perhaps more significantly, an upholstered super king size bed is less painful when you bang your knee on it.
This super king size upholstered sleigh bed from Dreams is a hugely popular model which has well over 2000 reviews and scores an impressive 4.8/5 from customers. The choice of colours is a bit basic - grey, brown and silver - but at least it won't look awful in five years' time, unlike a leopard print bed. The main decision to make is what type of base you want. The cheapest option is solid slats which feel firmer, whilst the mid-priced choice is sprung slats which are slightly softer and bouncier. If you want to push the boat out, you can buy this super king size sleigh bed as an adjustable bed. That's particularly good if you like to read or watch TV in bed but it does cost a lot more. The main downside is that you only get a one year warranty. |
