Eve Hybrid Mattress UK review and discount codes - 2020 and 2021

**Eve Sale: 30% off Eve Original Hybrid until 17/03/21**

Eve Sleep make three mattresses which they call 'hybrid' mattresses. The word 'hybrid' means that they all use a mix of springs and foam to keep you comfy.

But are they any good?

Well, in this rip-roaring tale of thrills and excitement (Ed: er, what?) we will compare the Eve Lighter Hybrid Mattress, the Eve Original Hybrid Mattress and the Eve Premium Hybrid Mattress.

We will look at customer reviews, awards and specifications. I will do my best to avoid drifting into tedious jargon and can almost certainly promise that this guide will be as exciting as the first episode in a new series of Line of Duty.

Prices mentioned are what you'll pay for a double mattress, at the time of typing.

What is the best Eve Hybrid mattress - Eve Lighter Hybrid, Eve Original Hybrid or Eve Premium Hybrid?

Woah Nelly! Let's not leap to the punchline just yet.

All the Eve Hybrid models are decent mattresses but they vary in price and specifications. The Eve Premium Hybrid Mattress certainly has the poshest specification but it costs about £400 more than the cheapest model (The Eve Lighter Hybrid Mattress)

Let's start with a summary of the three different hybrid mattresses sold by Eve Sleep:
  • The Eve Lighter Hybrid Mattress is the cheapest Eve hybrid mattress. It costs £579 for a double mattress at the time of writing. It's a medium-firm mattress according to Eve Sleep.
  • The Eve Original Hybrid Mattress is the mid-priced Eve hybrid mattress. I'd call this the 'standard' model. It costs £769 for a double mattress and is also medium-firm.
  • The Eve Premium Hybrid Mattress is the poshest and most expensive Eve hybrid mattress. It costs £978 for a double and is described as medium-firm by Eve Sleep.

You'll have gathered by now that Eve Sleep say that all their mattresses are medium-firm.

There are other similarities too between the three Eve Sleep hybrid mattresses:
  • they all come with the same home trial period and the same guarantee (more on those fascinating topics later).
  • they all use pocket springs. I'll avoid a 20 minute presentation on types of spring but suffice to say that pocket springs are the best type of springs you get on a mattress. Some cheap mattresses use 'open coil' springs which are wobbly, old fashioned and unsupportive. If I was Les Dawson, I would at this point say "just like my mother-in-law". For the record, my mother-in-law is none of those things.
  • the top bit of the cover can be cleaned on all of them
  • they are all single sided, so you rotate them round occasionally rather than turning them over to help avoid dips and sags over time. This is very common in this type of mattress. Traditional pocket sprung mattresses at the pricier end of the market tend to be double sided which does have some advantages, assuming you are strong enough and willing to turn it over regularly.

So, what are the differences that justify the £400ish difference between The Eve Lighter Hybrid Mattress and The Eve Premium Hybrid Mattress? Notable differences between the three models include:
  • There is a big range in the number of springs used in each Eve hybrid mattress. The cheapest of the three Eve Sleep hybrid mattresses uses about 650 springs whilst the mid-priced model uses about 800 springs and the most expensive model has about 1500 springs. The general idea is that the more springs you have, the more supported you will be. If you are heavier than average and can afford it, then I would certainly go for the mattress with 1500 springs rather than 650 or 800.

As a fascinating aside, if you see mattresses with spring numbers above 2000 then they probably have more than one layer including some full pocket springs and some mini springs for extra comfort. There's a limit to how many full size pocket springs will fit onto a layer of a mattress.

  • The most expensive Eve hybrid mattress is a bit deeper (28cm) than the cheapest Eve hybrid mattress (20cm). The mid-priced Eve Original Hybrid mattress is 25cm deep. As we all know, size isn't everything but as a general rule, deeper mattresses cost more than very thin ones. I've read a couple of guides which say that you'll get more benefit from a deeper mattress if you are heavier than average.

  • This is very boring, but there is quite a difference between the types of foam used in the three different Eve Hybrid mattresses. The cheapest model uses normal foam whilst the two more expensive models use a layer of 'memory foam', which is particularly good at offering support on a mattress. The poshest of the three actually uses a special type of memory foam which has 'active cooling' (that's The Eve Premium Hybrid Mattress for anyone losing track).

This might all sound like a load of waffly jargon but one of the common complaints about memory foam is that it can make you feel a little bit warm. If you find that you get too hot in bed then it might be worth the upgrade to the most expensive of the three Eve hybrid mattresses (the Eve Premium Hybrid mattress).

The cheapest Eve Hybrid mattress is the 'Lighter' model...

...and the most expensive 'Premium Hybrid' has even more springs for extra support and special foam to keep you cool

How firm are the Eve Sleep Hybrid Mattresses?

As mentioned earlier, all of the Eve Hybrid mattresses are described as medium-firm by Eve Sleep.

If you're unsure what firmness mattress you need, you might like to know about these general rules:
  • the heavier you are, the firmer the mattress you should buy. The theory is that heavy people sink into a mattress so they will not get the support they need from a very soft mattress. The idea is to end up in a supportive sleeping position rather then a) ending up on the floor or b) lying on top and not sinking in at all
  • the position you usually sleep in is also important. People who spend most of their times on their front or back in bed need firmer mattresses than people who mostly sleep on their sides. This is because side sleepers concentrate more pressure on their hips and shoulders.

Medium-firm is an exceedingly popular firmness level and you'll find that loads of mattresses describe themselves as this. One slight complication is that mattress companies don't compare notes about what they mean when they said 'medium-firm' so one company's 'medium-firm' mattress might feel slightly different to another mattress brand's.

With that in mind, testing out a mattress is useful unless you're one of life's risk takers.

What reviews do customers give The Eve Hybrid Mattresses?

As a brand overall, Eve Sleep scores extraordinarily well on TrustPilot with an average of 4.6/5 at the time of writing.

We also dug out customer review scores for The Eve Lighter Hybrid Mattress (that's the cheapest of the three). It scores 4.6/5 after 500+ reviews on Eve's website, 4.6/5 from 150+ reviews on Google reviews, 4.4/5 from 200+ reviews on Amazon and 4.5/5 from 40+ reviews on Dunelm.

There are fewer individual reviews of The Eve Original Hybrid Mattress and The Eve Premium Hybrid Mattress. Your best bet is to sift through the reviews for the Eve Sleep brand on TrustPilot and look for the ones which mention the Original Hybrid or the Premium Hybrid.

Which awards have The Eve Hybrid MAttresses won?

Eve Sleep's three Hybrid mattresses are all award-winners.

Perhaps most impressively, they've all won awards from Which?

The Eve Original Hybrid Mattress was also included in a mattress guide by The Independent whilst The Eve Premium Hybrid Mattress was included in a similar list by T3.

What guarantee and home trial period do you get with the Eve Sleep Hybrid Mattresses?

Whether you buy the 'Lighter' 'Original' or 'Premium' Eve hybrid mattress, you get the same home trial period of 100 nights.

That means if it doesn't feel right, you can return it for a refund. It's worth having a read of the terms and conditions but it's not very complex.

This might seem like a ridiculously generous offer but it's actually quite common for a mattress brand to offer a trial period.

A few years ago, nearly all mattresses were bought from a shop after you'd tried out 20 and finally said "I think I liked that one with the blue headboard best, or was it that one in the corner?" (if you're anything like me, you would have been subtly steering your spouse towards the one that was £500 cheaper).

Then, along came the 'bed in a box' which is usually a mattress which you buy online without trying it out first. It arrives in a box which you can get up the stairs a bit easier than a flat mattress.

Eve Sleep is a bit unusual as you can actually try out some of their mattresses in stores. There's a store locator section on their website. They sell several different mattresses, so I wouldn't assume you can try out every single model in every store.

There are a small number of mattress brands which offer a longer home trial period than you get with the Eve Hybrid models. You get a 200 night trial with Emma Mattresses, which sell a hybrid and an 'original' model much like Eve Sleep. Simba Sleep Mattresses also offer a 200 night trial. The longest mattress trial periods that we know of in the UK are offered by The Nectar Sleep Mattress (£569) which is a memory foam mattress and The Dreamcloud Mattress (£949) which is a hybrid mattress (i.e. springs and foam).

Meanwhile, you get a 10 year warranty with the Eve Sleep hybrid mattresses. There are Ts & Cs to read but it's not too complex.

Again, this length of warranty would have been unusually generous a few years ago for a mattress of this price. However, several 'bed in a box' mattresses match the Eve Sleep 10 year warranty including Ergoflex, Brook + Wilde, Emma, OTTY and Simba Sleep.

There are also a small number of similarly priced brands which offer longer warranties including Nectar Sleep which has a 'forever' warranty and REM-Fit which has a 15 year guarantee.

Luxury mattress brand Vispring give warranties of up to 30 years but they tend to cost £1000+ for a double mattress.

Where can I buy The Eve Lighter Hybrid, Original Hybrid and Premium Hybrid MAttresses?

Generally, you'll get the best price from Eve Sleep direct. Discount codes and sales come and go so you might want to hang on until a good offer such as Black Friday, Boxing Day or similar.

The cheapest of Eve's three Hybrid mattresses - the Lighter model - is also sold at Amazon and Dunelm so you may want to compare prices.

Where can I get a discount code for The Eve Hybrid Lighter, Original and Premium Mattresses?

The best place we've found for Eve Sleep discount codes is (drumroll please....) the Eve Sleep website. They tend to shout about their discount codes rather than burying them in weird places.

When we hear of any, we will put them at the top of this page.

Will Eve take away my old Mattress if I buy The Eve Hybrid Lighter, Original or Premium Mattress?

Yes, Eve Sleep will remove mattresses at a cost of £35.

I'd say that's a plus point when you're comparing mattress brands, as it's not a service offered by everyone.

The alternative is to take your old mattress to the local recycling centre but that requires you to wrestle your old super king into the back of your Renault Clio.

What are the alternatives to The Eve Sleep Hybrid Mattresses?

The mattress market is a competitive place with literally thousands of white rectangles competing for your money (as well as a few colourful rectangles). Here's a selection of hybrid mattresses which are good alternatives to the Eve Sleep hybrids:

  • The Brook + Wilde Lux mattress (£799) has 1000 full size pocket springs which means it has more than The Eve Original Hybrid Mattress (£769) but fewer than The Eve Premium Hybrid Mattress (£978). However, The Lux does also have 2000 mini springs for a bit of extra comfort. Another notable advantage is that The Lux comes in soft, medium, firm or extra firm rather than just one tension. Reviews of the brand on TrustPilot are similar (4.6/5) and it also matches the Eve Sleep mattresses on warranty length and home trial period.
**Brook + Wilde Discount Code #1: Free iPad with code SAVE349 when you spend £849+ until 08/03/21**
**Brook + Wilde Discount Code #2: £100 off £649+ with code SAVE100 until 15/03/21**
Lux hybrid mattress by Brook and Wilde
The Lux mattress by Brook + Wilde has the same trial period and warranty length as Eve Sleep's hybrid mattresses

  • The REM-Fit 400 hybrid mattress (£869) is made by an American company. It's another high scorer on TrustPilot but it has a higher spring count than all of the Eve Sleep hybrid mattresses (2000 springs, in case you're interested). It also has a longer warranty at 15 years. The home trial period is the same length as the Eve Sleep mattresses (100 nights). It's medium-firm which is the same as the Eve Sleep mattress, although bear in mind that mattress brands set their own ratings for tension rather than using a universal scale. REM-Fit also sell firmer and softer mattresses but they are more expensive.
REM Fit 400 hybrid mattress
REM-Fit sell a mattress which is a similar firmness to the Eve hybrid's but has more springs

  • The Simba Hybrid (£799) is a multi-award winning mattress which shares a lot of attributes with the Eve Sleep hybrid. The Simba brand gets a similarly glowing score on TrustPilot and you get a similar 10 year guarantee. It's medium/firm, just like the Eve Sleep hybrid. However, the Simba trial period is 200 nights rather than 100. Also, the Simba Sleep Hybrid uses mini springs rather than normal sized pocket springs. That means that most of the work is done by the layers of foam, with the springs adding a bit of comfort.
**Simba Sale: 26% off for new customers until 07/03/21 + free delivery + 200 night trial**
The Simba hybrid mattress
Simba Sleep's mattress uses mini springs, so it is known as a 'hybrid mattress'
