Are Sleepeezee Mattress Reviews Good? + UK Deals 2024

Sleepeezee mattress reviews are more positive than many of their rivals. But that’s not the end of the story.

The brand is also a long established name in the UK mattress market which has won major awards.

Their prices won’t make your eyes water and they make mattresses in a traditional way.

Top models cost about £1400 for a double mattress, but there are plenty of good quality models around the £500 mark and there are even budget Sleepeezee mattresses for about £300.

Pros and cons of Sleepeezee mattresses

Pros:

  • Awarded a Royal Warrant
  • Reputation built up over many years, rather than only a short time as with most bed in a box mattress brands
  • Mostly natural materials and traditional manufacturing methods
  • Good range of prices, including some mattresses under £300
  • Award winning models, such as the Mayfair 3200
  • Some models can be swapped if they aren’t comfy
  • Made in the UK
  • One of the higher rated sprung mattress brands on TrustPilot
  • The ‘Dreamer’ model is used by Travelodge, so can be tested in the real world easily enough
  • Sleepeezee mattress reviews are more positive than many of their rivals

Cons:

  • Swapping and return isn’t quite as simple as with most ‘bed in a box’ brands
  • Cheaper models have five year warranties, compared to 10 years for similarly priced foam mattresses
  • Some models are single sided, so you can’t flip them over

What type of mattresses do Sleepeezee make?

There are two main types of mattress – sprung mattresses and foam mattresses. There are others, but let’s not make this too unbearably complicated.

Sleepeezee make sprung mattresses which is what most of us are familiar with.

The vast majority of Sleepeezee mattresses use ‘pocket springs’, which is the superior option to ‘open coil’ springs. If you can afford it, I would pick one of their pocket spring options, as you get much better support. Your grandma probably had an open coil mattress in her spare bedroom.

Several Sleepeezee mattresses also have built in ‘toppers’ or ‘pillow tops’ made from materials such as memory foam. That means they are actually a hybrid mattress which is partly springs and partly foam.

The benefits of a hybrid mattress

The advantage of these combination mattresses is that you get the traditional feel of a sprung mattress with an extra layer of comfort and support. The downside is that you usually can’t turn the mattress over. Some guides reckon that mattresses don’t sag as much if you keep turning them over. Of course, you can still rotate any mattress to help avoid getting an indentation.

You’ll notice that there’s a big variation in spring counts amongst the different Sleepeezee pocket spring mattresses. Most of them are between 1000 and 2000 springs, although some go as high as 4000 springs. Once you get beyond 2000 springs, the mattress is offering you more than one layer of springs as there is a limit to how many springs you can squeeze on to one layer.

Which awards have Sleepeezee mattresses won?

Sleepeezee are one of the only mattress companies with a Royal Warrant, meaning that you can sleep in the same bed as royalty – or at least someone in the Royal Household (other brands with a Royal Warrant include Glencraft and Hypnos). This is no guarantee that they make good mattresses. However, it is handed out with careful consideration and is certainly a good start.

Several individual Sleepeezee mattresses have also won awards from expert testers in recent years, including:

The Sleepeezee Hybrid 2000 Pocket Gel Mattress (£613 for a double mattress at the time of writing)

An award winning mattress which has a firm feel. It uses a combination of springs and foam, hence the ‘hybrid’ name. It’s got one layer of 1000 normal sized pocket springs which does most of the heavy lifting (no offence). There’s another layer of 1000 mini springs for extra comfort.

It uses materials including foam for the other layers rather than natural materials. There are pros and cons to that, and it’s a matter which is open to some debate. For example, there’s the question of dust mites. Many experts suggest that as foam has a tight structure it ‘makes it difficult for any allergens to find get into the mattress filling’ (Mattress Next Day).

However, researchers who studied mattresses in 152 Norwegian homes found that children’s mattresses were more likely to contain dust mites if they were foam rather than pocket sprung (Mason, Glew et al. 2002).

This mattress is a good depth at 24cm and it comes with a 60 night trial period if you buy it from Mattress Online (as do other Sleepeezee mattresses) so you can swap it if you don’t like it (read the Ts and Cs here).

At the time of writing, customers on Mattress Online give it 4.6/5.

Sleepeezee Beautyrest Boutique Lexington 1800 Mattress (£799)

  • This is another award winner which uses a combination of springs and foam. There are notable differences though from the Hybrid 2000 mentioned above.
  • Firstly, this one has a layer of memory foam rather than other types of foam. Memory foam is commonly used in mattresses and was originally developed to help keep astronauts comfy. It has more of a hugging and sinking feeling than standard foam but people like the comfort it offers. Some people find that memory foam makes them feel a bit warm in bed.
  • Secondly, this one is medium/firm rather than firm. Generally speaking, heavier people need firmer mattresses than lighter people. Also, people who sleep on their backs tend to need firmer mattresses than people who sleep on their sides.

Zhu, Shen and Song researched the effect on your body of varying firmness levels on a pocket sprung mattress. The 2011 study was called ‘Body pressure distribution research and zone design of pocket spring mattresses’. They found that softer pocket sprung mattresses offered the ‘lowest peak pressure in the buttocks zone’ whilst a ‘medium pocket sprung mattress’ had the lowest peak pressure in the shoulder zone.

The Sleepeezee Beautyrest Boutique Lexington 1800 Mattress has a very similar specifications to the Sleepeezee Jessica 1800 which is another award winner.

Sleepeezee Mayfair (£999)

  • The Sleepeezee Mayfair is a medium firmness mattress at the top end of the Sleepeezee range. It was a runner up in the ‘Bed of the Year’ category at the 2019 Bed Industry Awards (a glittering evening hosted by Gyles Brandreth in case you were wondering).

It is what’s known as a ‘pillowtop’ mattress which means it has a comfy topper sewn onto the mattress. As a result, you can’t turn it over so you just rotate it round to avoid getting dips and lumps over time.

It uses a combination of pocket springs for support and expensive natural materials like British wool and cashmere for added comfort. It’s a good option if you prefer a mattress which is mostly made from natural materials rather than synthetic (i.e. plastic-based) foams.

It’s got three layers of springs including some full sized pocket springs and some smaller ones for comfort.

The Sleepeezee Mayfair comes with a 10 year guarantee, which is very good for a pocket sprung mattress.

Is the Sleepeezee Travelodge Dreamer Mattress any good?

You can now buy the Sleepeezee mattress which is used in Travelodge hotels across the UK. It’s called the Travelodge Dreamer mattress and it costs £549 for a double mattress at the time of writing.

It uses pocket springs, as with other Sleepeezee mattresses.

That offers a familiar feeling for most of us and has less ‘sinking’ than you get with the main alternative of memory foam.

The spring count on the mattress is relatively low at ‘over 950’ springs (I’m assuming that the exact number is between 951 and 999). Typically, pocket sprung mattresses have a spring count ranging from 600 for the very cheapest ones up to 2000 on a single layer. Where you see higher numbers it usually means that there are multiple layers of springs.

There are plenty of outstanding mattresses with numbers around 1200 pocket springs such as some Vispring mattresses. However, I would be reluctant to buy a mattress with only 600 or 800 pocket springs.

How many springs is enough on a pocket sprung mattress?

The rule of thumb is that 1000+ springs is preferable, so this one is skirting around that number and will be absolutely fine for most people. It is certainly preferable to the old way of making sprung mattresses which was to use one long piece of metal and turn it into lots of connected springs. If you are very heavy then you might find that a number closer to 1500-2000 springs is more supportive and durable.

You will find that a new sprung mattress will probably feel a bit different from the one you’ve tried out in a Travelodge. A couple of years of use with people of various shapes and sizes will soften them up a little.

The Sleepeezee Travelodge Dreamer mattress is described as medium-firm. That tends to be a popular choice with hotels as it suits a lot of people. If you are considering purchasing the Dreamer mattress then the chances are that you’ve found it to be comfortable during a stay in a hotel. Keep that advice in mind about pocket sprung mattresses softening a little over time.

You can buy the Sleepeezee Travelodge Dreamer in single, double, king size and super king size. You can also add on a base.

The warranty and Sleepeezee mattress reviews

It comes with a five year warranty. That’s about right for a pocket sprung mattress of this price. You’ll find 8-10 year warranties are offered on slightly more expensive pocket sprung mattresses. However, foam mattresses tend to be more generous with their warranties and for this price you could get one with a 10 year warranty.

We’ve included one positive review and one negative review from TrustPilot to give you a flavour of the comments. It is fair to say that the majority of customers are satisfied as the overall brand score is 4.3/5.

What reviews do customers give Sleepeezee mattresses?

Sleepeezee mattress reviews on TrustPilot are very impressive. We did a comparison on our ‘beginner’s guide’ page and found that Sleepeezee were scoring 4.4/5 overall from customers (at the time of writing).

Some mattress brands such as Simba Sleep and Ergoflex scored slightly higher but they make hybrid or memory foam mattresses and have a much smaller range so it isn’t a fair comparison.

There are also Google reviews when you search for Sleepeezee mattress reviews. These are a confusing mix of people commenting on parking at the factory along with people reviewing a specific bed. Dreams only sell a handful of Sleepeezee mattresses, but they were all scoring highly with customers when I checked. Generally, Dreams sell ‘exclusive’ versions of mattresses from major brands so you won’t find the same models elsewhere.

What guarantee does Sleepeezee offer?

Most Sleepeezee mattresses I looked at had a five year guarantee. That’s somewhere in the middle in the mattress market. Most cheaper brands only offer you a year or two, whilst some posh brands such as Vispring offer up to 30 years and Nectar Sleep or DreamCloud both offer a ‘forever guarantee’.

A few of the most expensive Sleepeezee mattresses come with a 10 year guarantee (e.g. the Sleepeezee Mayfair mentioned earlier).

Another factor which makes Sleepeezee stand out is that they offer a 60 night sleep trial on most mattresses if you buy them from Mattress Online (link at top of this page). This sort of thing is generally offered by ‘bed in a box’ mattress companies which just make one or two models, but it’s a much less common offer from big mattress brands which have a wide range.

It’s worth noting that there are terms and conditions. For example, you can swap the mattress for a different Sleepeezee model rather than just getting a refund. It’s still an appealing option, particularly if you are buying online.

Where can I buy Sleepeezee mattresses?

Sleepeezee mattresses are pretty widely available and you’ll find them in lots of showrooms. There’s a useful ‘find a retailer’ map on the Sleepeezee website. Online retailers with a big range include Mattress Online (more than 40 models) and Mattressnextday (nearly 50 different Sleepeezee models when I checked).

It’s worth trying out a mattress in person if you can. The 60 night Sleepeezee sleep trial mentioned above will give you a much better chance to try it out than you’ll get after lying down for 30 seconds in a showroom and saying ‘hmm, that one seems OK’. The main advantage of trying out a mattress in a shop is that you can try out several in one go.

There’s no industry wide agreement of what a company means when they say that a mattress is ‘soft’, ‘medium’ or ‘firm’ so buying online is a bit of a guessing game. As mentioned earlier, heavier people and back sleepers need firmer mattresses than slighter people and side sleepers.

All prices mentioned are for double mattresses and are correct at the time of writing (2023)
