About the best mattresses guide
The Best Mattresses Guide was created by a shopper who found himself baffled by a search for a new bed.
Every mattress shopping guide and review website just added to the confusion, with endless diagrams of springs and layers or foam. Eventually, after reading enough technical advice to fill a library, he condensed the information into the basics and attempted to present it in plain English. The site is now a joint effort with his wife who does all the boring jobs. |
How did you decide which mattresses to include?
We trawled the web to find as much information as we could on the many, many mattresses available. We looked at industry awards (e.g. National Bed Federation awards), independent expert reviews, customer reviews (e.g. Amazon), specifications and anything else which seemed trustworthy and relevant. We also tried to include a range of prices and types of mattresses since not everyone is looking for a £2000 mattress (despite those annoying sales pitches which say things like 'you spend seven million hours sleeping in your life and a £2000 mattress will only cost you 2p per hour over its lifespan ...')
Do you try all the mattresses yourselves?
No. We only occasionally try out mattresses ourselves and when we do we tend to focus on ones which are already mentioned on the site because they've won awards. This site is only a part time thing and it just isn't practical for us to try out all 8000 mattresses on the market...sorry.
Do mattresses pay to appear on your site?
No, but we do sometimes receive commission if you buy a mattress (these links are in bold). We started by researching mattresses which have won industry awards, independent expert awards, glowing customer reviews, or have a good specification and then we link to an online shop selling that model (e.g. Amazon, Dreams). Some of those shops pay us commission - this is called affiliate marketing. This gives us editorial control over which mattresses are included and doesn't change the price you pay for a mattress. It also means we can pay for the site without filling it with pop ups and banner adverts.
